From DSP/BIOS 5 (and DSPLink) to SYS/BIOS 6 (and SysLink)

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAP-L138

Hi

We have develop a prototype of a power substation control application with an OMAP-L138 and DSP/BIOS, DSPLink.

On the road to industrialisation, we have some reflexions about the efficiency and the reliability of our design.

Our question is : have we an interest to use SYS/BIOS and SysLink in our design ?

  • if we see the number of release of SYS/BIOS and SysLink from the last year, we are questionning about the maturity of this OS,
  • on the last release notes, there are many critical bugs affected to the OMAP-L138,
  • SysLink is more easy to implement, more efficiency than DSPLink ?
  • the environment for SYS/BIOS on CCS isn't more complex for what we need than DSP/BIOS ?

We are waiting from you technical answers.

Thanks

  • David,

I'll attempt to address some of your questions.

While both DSP/BIOS and DSPLink are stable products, they are no longer being actively developed.

Releases on these older products usually occur only to address critical bug fixes or to add support for devices that are essentially identical to devices already supported.

For the last 7 years, all new features and development efforts have been applied to SYS/BIOS and SysLink.

That is the main reason why the rate of releases is so different between the two sets of products.

Additionally, all new RTOS related CCS productivity and debug enhancements are leveraged off of SYS/BIOS.

In order for you to take advantage of these new developments, and since you are in the prototype phase of your product, I STRONGLY encourage you to migrate to the SYS/BIOS and SysLink products.

    Alan

  • Alan,

Thanks but with this answer I'm not more confident to use SYS/BIOS and SysLink.
You don't give me an answer about the maturity of this OS and, again, if I see the last release notes, I don't think so.
I can understand the policy of TI but I have some industrial contraints.
Probably, it isn't possible to have my answer from TI.

    Regards

  • Hi !

I'm sorry to reject this answer but this is not what I'm waiting.
I have to evaluate this OS by myself to have answers to my questions ...

    Regards

  • David,

It's not clear to me from reading the thread what else you are asking from the support team, which is why I marked it as closed.  Do you have a specific further question that you would like the team to answer?
