Hi,
We have an application that requires encoding (H264/MPJPEG/MPEG4) of a single 1080p60hz channel for the DM8148 and are trying to determine what speed grade/OPP is required for the HDVICP operation that would support this. We would like to use a TMS320DM8148CCYEA0 (720M ARM / 600M DSP), can someone confirm this speed grade will provide the appropriate OPP for such an operation?
Thanks.
-Mike
Hi Mike,
Please see this post: http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/716/t/155926.aspx.

Hi Viet,
I'm not entirely sure this post answers the question. The post mentions that the default HDVICP2 frequency is 306 MHz, but doesn't say if 1080p60 encoding can be done at this frequency. It mentions that 1080p60 capture via HDVPSS is working, which is good, but we also need to encode as well. It also describes how to increase the HDVICP2 frequency to a higher frequency, but that is not supported with the CYEA0 / IT part and would be a non-starter.
With the system at OPP 120%, HDVICP2 at 306 MHz, can I encode a received 1080p60 (H264/MP4)? Yes, or no?
Thanks for your help.
-Mike
Hi,
306 MHz HDVICP2 is not enough to encode 1080p60. It needs to run at >500 MHz.
Regards, Naito
Hi Naito,
I'm looking at table 7-4 of the DM8148 Specification, and even at 166% OPP the HDVICP2 can only run at 450 MHz. Can you clarify? Does the part not support 1080p60 encoding at all then? We only need to encode 1 channel.
-Mike
According to this post, DM1848 should be able to do a single channel encode 1080p60, right?

Hello Mike,
Sorry for confusion. DM8148 OPP100 does not support 1080P60, but DM8148 OPP166 does.

Hi Viet,
Thanks for the clarification!
So the specification for OPP166 requires a CYE2 speed grade part. The part is shown as "PRELIMINARY" on the website (not available).
1) When will the CYE2 part be available?
2) Are there any plans to support an extended temperature grade CYE2 (a CYEA2) DM8148?
We have CYE1 and CYEA0 parts on hand for a design. Can you please advise what sorts of resolutions may be compressed using the lower OPPs? We have requirements for 1080p30, 1080i, as well as 720p60 and several more common lower resolutions. Is there a table on the DSP wiki or something that characterizes the capabilities of the different OPPs?
Thanks for your help.
-Mike
Hi Mike,
It is Yes for both question 1 and 2 but CYEA2 is not ready for order yet. For the OPP100 part, 1080p30, 1080i, and 720p60 will not have any problem.

Hi Viet,
For single channel 1080p60 encode, which cores must run at OPP166? The HDVICP, ARM, DSP, and Core? Or just the HDVICP?
We are short one 1.35 supply (we have enough to power 3 of the 4, but must leave one at 1.2, ideally). Suggestions?
