Hi,

We are using hynix HY27US08121B, 64 MB,1 bit ECC nand in our custom board. I'm using Lauterbach / PEEDI debugger to program the NAND flash, as the CCS nand write program does not support for our memory device ( As per the readme file in nand write, it support only for nand device with 4 bit ECC, Let me know If any one has suggestion to change it for 1 bit ECC)

I could write to nand with Lauterbach debugger, but flash verify failed. When i dump the flash and see all data are 0xFF.

For testing we made the CE hardware line pulled low permanently, then flash program and verify successful, but NAND boot is not successful. I have verified the BOOT mode is set to NAND with debugger.

To check RBL, I erased the nand and reset/run/stop, then when i check the NANDFCR register the 4-bit ECC is enabled by RBL. Our RBL version is d800k008.

I would like to know the RBL supports for our nand flash with 1 bit ECC ?. Any suggestion why the nand verify fails without pulling the CE line low. We have probed the hardware lines, all seems to be ok as per the omap reference manual.

Hi Arul,

Devices that support 4 bit ECC NAND also support 1 bit ECC NAND . Here is a post where you can see a 1 bit ECC NAND was successfully tested on the OMAPL138.

I can also confirm that Hynix NANDs have been successfully used on DM355/DM365 that has a similar EMIFA interface. The complete list is published here

The NAND writer provided in the Serial Flash and boot utiltities or the PSP package is provided for the OMAPL138 EVM which has a Micron NAND with 4 bit ECC. As you may know the NAND device is interfaced with the OMAPL138 using EMIFA and the ECC on the NAND is computed by the EMIFA. Changing the setting from 4 bit ECC to 1 bit ECC would require you to edit the device_nand.c file. The NAND flash control register controls the number of ECC setting. Please check Page 841 of the Technical reference manual while making changes in software.

The Hynix part number not supported for CE don't care, only HY27US08122B is supported for CE don't care. Though we can use CE don't care device with work around provided in the OMAP L138 user manual EMIF, it is not reliable for booting as per the following port.

Those constrain is not documented in bootloader application note / supported nand device list. Please update the same.

We have replaced our nand with Micron 4Gbit ( same as in evm board), no issue with the nand flash now.

Arul,

Appreciate, your feedback on this. I agree the Bootloader Application Note doesn`t directly refer to this issue in its text so we could do a better job of spelling this out in that document. Since this issue was dealt with in detail in interfacing NAND with EMIFA section in the Technical Reference Manual(TRM) document for the device, we decided not cover this in the App Note.

We will add this detail and reference to all the follow up wikis we have created to that document when we update this document. Glad to know you are having no issues with the Micron NAND flash.
