AM3874 Power Estimation and DDR3 Interface timing information

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3874

To whom it may concern:

Hello, I am currently considering using the ARM processor, AM3874BCYEA80 and have a few questions about it as stated below

1. IBIS model

It seems that there is no IBIS model for AM3874BCYEA80 on TI web site.

I'd appreciate it if you could let me know how to download the IBIS model for AM3874BCYEA80 or send me one directly.

2. Power estimation

I have downloaded the Power Estimation Spreadsheet for AM387x on TI website (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/DM814x_AM387x_Power_Estimation).

However, it turned out that AM387x model does not exist on the DEVICE selection option. (All I can see is DM814x series models)

2-1. Which model among the DM814x models listed on device selection should I select if I use AM3874BCYEA80 ?

2-2. In addition, as far as I know, DM814x models are the same as AM3874 except for the additional DSP function. Then, is it okay if I disable only the DSP block of DM814x in order to implement the power estimation for AM3874BCYEA80 ? Are there any more blocks I have to disable so that I can acquire proper power estimation of AM3874BCYEA80 ?

2-3. The Core OPP for AM3874 is 166, which requires CVDD/ CVDD_ARM to be 1.35V. However, I do not seem to find 166 on Core OPP selection on the power estimation spreadsheet. There are just 100 and 120 Core OPP which set CVDD/ CVDD_ARM to 1.10V and 1.20V, respectively. How should I address this problem?

3. DDR3 Memory Controller Timing information

I’d like to ask for AC Characteristics of DDR3 Memory Controller.

I am already aware that TI provides DDR3 PCB Design Guide. I need, however, AC Characteristics of DDR3 Memory Controller in order to implement Signal Integrity.

Please let me know how to get Switching Characteristics for DDR3 Memory Controller (I need Switching Characteristics as provided for GPMC Block)

Your prompt response regarding this request would be greatly appreciated.

If you have any questions regarding this request, please contact me through email.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your help in advance.

Yours sincerely,

  • Hi,

My information is that there is no specific collateral created for the AM387X. Advice is to use the existing DM814X information. Since you have chosen an 800MHz processor, I think that DM8148CYE1 model will cover your case, and yes, you can disable the DSP block to get a closer approximation. As for OPP166, please note that it's still marked as TBD in Table 7-5 of the AM387X datasheet, which means that it's not fully verified yet. However you can enter 1.35V voltages in the Power Estimation Spreadsheet manually. Lastly, TI doesn't provide timing information on the DDR3 interface. The DDR3 PCB Design Guide must be followed exactly to achieve proper performance of DDR3 memory.

    Best Regards
