DM648 NRND? Is this a joke?

Hi, we are developing a project using DM648, and we aim to use 1.1GHz DSP. Now I cannot find DM648 any more on ti web site, and searching for it I can see on the page, well emphasized, the Not Reccomended for New Design warning!!! Is this a joke?

Is there any other DSP which are pin & software compatible?

DM648 is very good DSP – many video ports, much memory, high clock rate and so on. But I think the main reason it has been marked as NRND is rather high power consumption, especially in such a small package.
