DM814x CPTS Driver Note for IEEE1588/802.1AS Implementation

Hi all

Is there any document that describes how to use the driver to control the Common Platform Time Sync (CPTS) module inside the DM841x?

I am working on AVB implementation, and the first step is the time-stamping.

But I can't find any document or driver note that I can use for IEEE1588/802.1AS implementation.

Please help me to gather these information, especially where is the driver that I can find in the EZSDK sources?

Please refer to the following wiki.

  • Hello.

The referenced link indicates the need/use of modifying the ptpd code.

    • "Modified the PTPd2 source from source forge to support 802.1AS protocol by the reference from the source from code.google.com as it supports 802.1AS but doesn't support POSIX hardware clock."
    • "tar xzvf ptpdv2-google.tar.gz"

But there isn't a link to the modified package and/or a recipe for recreating it. There is a link to the ptpd sourceforge site but no indication of the version used for the testing baseline.

Could you point, or otherwise direct, me to the code used for the testing results posted on the wiki?

    Regards,

    Martin

  • Hello,

Even I would like to use the modified ptpd source code to be used on the EVM of DM814X.  But I also do not find a link to download this modified ptpd code which can directly be used on this EVM board.  Is it possible to post this software link as early as possible?  Actually I am stuck on my EAVB implementation.

    Thanks in advance,

    Regards

  • As per Ti's wiki, ptpd2 which uses 1588 h/w time stamping was not  compliant(802.1AS) when EVM boards were connected through AVB switch(there is an old discussion here).

AudioScience guys fixed this problem on existing ptpd2, now i am able to connect two of my DM8148_EVM's through Harman-BSS AVB switch, and they seem to work (I have tested ptp sync on layer 2, further testing is required to see if this modified ptpd2 is fully compliant to 802.1AS specification).

  • It is probably not 100% 802.1AS compliant, but we (AudioScience) are working on it.

  • Further to what Andrew said, we have switched from ptpd to linuxptp.

    http://linuxptp.sourceforge.net/

We have it working in 802.1AS mode on our DM814x platform and have tested with several AVB switches.  our codebase is here:

  • Hi All,

I am trying to run ptp with e option

            ptpd2 -ce

      iam getting the error

          HW Tx TIMESTAMP Not received

           txTimestamp failed

      and  ptpd2 stops

As mentioned in the wiki have enabled PTP and PPS options while compiling the kernel..

     Thanks and Regards

  • Hi ,

We have downloaded the linux ptp and trying to run on DM814X.

We are using ezsdk 5_05_02_00 where kernel version is 2.6.37.

Current is  linuxptp-1.3 is supported in version 2.6.37

We have cross-compiled linux ptp . Which binary can be used for DM814x and its usage

    (hwstamp_ctl, phc2sys, pmc, ptp4l...?)

    Thanks and Regards
