When I sit in front of Code Composer, I realise that when the page you refer to says:

"1. After starting CCSv4 or CCSv5, create new target configuration. Select XDS510USB/XDS560USB emulator and device as TI816X/TI4X based on what is applicable."

that the emulator cannot be selected until after you choose the family and variant. Is the family ARM or C6000 when the chip has both ?

If I pick "ARM" I'm offered Cortex M, Cortex R, DaVinci DM644X or DaVinci DM646X, yet none of these is mentioned in the documentation for my TMDXEVM8148 board

I do, but I didn't realise that what that number was, as I was at home when I posed the question. The point being that I'm lost in a sea of seeming unconnected numbers. I have the number for my EVM and what's printed on the chip but these are not available as choices in Code Composer :(

OK, I chatted to someone at Texas and they told me to use family "ARM" variant "Generic" subvariant "Cortex A8", which allowed me to create a "Hello World" example and select the JTAG connection, which confirms it's working. I was alarmed to get a "wrong endianess" warning when I tried to debug, and once that was corrected, be told that it would not load at address 0x00000020. Where can I find guidance on actually running a test project on the EVM? Can I boot via the JTAG instead of using TFTP or SD card ?

I read those things but they don't seem to addess my issues

a) when compiling the "Hello World" example the linker says:

<Linking>warning #10247-D: creating output section ".sysmem" without a SECTIONS  specification

but I cannot find anything in the project properties that refers to sections or load addresses

b) when I try to debug the example I get:

"CortexA8: File Loader: Data verification failed at address 0x00000020 Please verify target memory and memory map."

as I understand it the RAM starts at 0x800000 (number of zeroes uncertain) but I can't find anywhere to plug such a number in

also I'm unsure of how this relates to the Linux instance already running on the EVM - presumably JTAG debugging halts/overwrites this ? Can I attach to a program already running under Linux or are the contexts disjunct ?

My feeling is that because I've had to select a "generic" option with no reference to the actual target hardware (because I couldn't find it), the compiler doesn't know enough about the target to generate the necessary memory map
