C6670 Antenna interface

Hello -

I am planning on using a C6670, need to input generic "high-rate" data (20+ Gbit/sec), it's not CPRI/OBSAI.  CPRI/OBSAI protocols have a lot of overhead and complexity, are we forced to use CPRI/OBSAI or is there a way to configure the AIF2 to avoid most of the overhead/complexity?  Or is the best advice still section 3.3 in sprug12 (AIF1), is that still valid for AIF2?

Thanks!

   Joe

  • Joe,

There's going to be overhead associated with using AIF.  It's intent is to operate either with OBSAI or CPRI.  Have you considered using HyperLink which would meet your performance requirements or possibly a combination of other high speed interfaces available such as SRIO and PCIe?

    Best Regards,
    Chad

  • SRIO (x4) and PCIe (x2) individually can't support the data rate, I guess you are suggesting looking to see if using both together could work?  I'll think it through but that would be difficult for a single data stream.

I hadn't considered Hyperlink, I was thinking it was more for messaging, I will look into it more, thank you.

If we do convert our interface to CPRI is the guidance from sprug12 (for AIF1) still valid for AIF2 (especially "3.3.3 Minimum Requirements for CPRI") ?

    Thanks again!

  • Hi,

Antenna interface is mainly used to transfer Radio IQ sample data but we added special feature to transfer pure digital packet with very high rate (max 4 Gbps per lane). AIF1 and AIF2 follows CPRI spec (with minimum requirement) and AIF2 supports packet and IQ sample data transfer with more flexible way. you may get more detail from AIF2 users guide and AIF migration guide. you can download this from our ti.com website.

    Regards,

    Albert

  • Thank you!  By "special feature to transfer pure digital packet" do you mean "Generic Packet Traffic" discussed in section 9.5 of the AIF2 User Guide, or is there more?
