AM3358 EVM Starterware Problems

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: AM3358

I am trying to get the starterware demo application running on my AM3358 EVM. I followed the instructions to a tee, but still nothing is working. This is what I did:

1) I connected a null modem cable from my PC to the EVM

2) Opened Tera Term and configured properly

3) I used the TI_SDCard_boot_utility app to load the MLO and app file that comes with the Starterware package

4) I inserted the SD card and set the EVM in the proper profiles

Nothing happens when I turned the EVM on. I tried several different boot profiles because there was some discrepency on the SW3 switch

Does anyone have experience doing this?

  • No one has any support for this?

  • For two year, this question is still unanswered?  (I am wondering !!)

I am having the same problem, if you got answer, please let me know - appreciated.

The evm runs the Android and Linux SD that came with the package without any problem, and we have been building a significant number of pilot units based on AM335x, but based on either a more rigid in-house or third party plateform.  I thought it will be good to build on CCS and get more flexibility and options, and leverage on starterware.  But it just does not work.  I followed the exact steps in quickstart guide and "booting and flashing", the evm does not boot, On the hyperterminal, it prints CCCCCC(pause a few minutes)CCCCCC(Pause)...  I don't know what it's doing.

With the same setup and the same SD, I copied the Android files onto the SD, it boots with no problem.

So either TI's starter guide is incorrect, or the starterware files are incorrect. Whatever it is, i am surprise TI has not updated the online document for two years!!

    TI support team, any help?

This usually means there is a problem with your boot device (the one where CPU tries to find MLO file). Either the boot device selected by your boot-pins is not available (or the boot-pin-configuration is wrong) or the boot-device is not accessible for some reason.
