OMAP 4460 - McBSP2 connection to receive audio data from HDMI receiver

Hi,

I want to connect HDMI Input with OMAP-4460. So I decide to use Analog device's HDMI Rx ADV7611. I connected its video out put to CAM2 port and McBSP2 port for audio data.

HDMI Rx has MCLK, SCLK, LR CLK and Data Out lines from audio port. OMAP-McBSP has available lines are Data receive(Dr), Combined serial clock (CLKx) and combined frame synchronization (Fsx) and ABE_Clock input.

I connected MCLK to ABE_Clock input, SCLK to CLKx , DO to DI and LRCLK to FSx. I have two queries with this connection.

1. Can I use ABE_McBSP to receive audio data ?

2. Is my above connection is correct with McBSP port ?

Hi Hitesh Gambhava,

Omap 4460 has 3 McBSP ports They provide a full-duplex direct serial interface between the ABE and external devices.

List of recommended usage per McBSP:
• MCBSP1: BT voice/audio data
• MCBSP2: Digital baseband (DBB) voice data
• MCBSP3: MIDI FM data

Thanks for your prompt reply.

I already used McBSP1 for BT voice/audio data. Now i want to use another McBSP port to receive audio data from HDMI receiver.

Can it possible for another McBSP port or there is only option is McBSP1 ?

Hi Hitesh,

What platform are you using?, because depending on you platform is the number of McBSP ports you have available.

Please explain the connection between HDMI Rx and CAM2. CAM2 is an input port for OMAP. It is designed to receive data from a sensor which acts as CSI Tx. OMAP has a corresponding CSI Rx to receive external sensor's input.

Does your HDMI Rx expects data out from CAM2. If yes, this is not a valid connection.

I know CAM2 is receive port. HDMI Rx outs 16-bit video data and It connects to CAM2 port where CAM2 port acts as input port.

By Platform I mean what board are you using, because ie for Blaze you may be limited in the number of McBSP port you can use due to the fact that it has more components, where in Panda you may have more ports available.

If HDMI Rx can output data in a format compatible with CAM port (CSI2 protocol basically) then there is no problem.
