Are the UCD90XXX power sequencers suitable for C6678 power sequencing?

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6678, UCD90910

The Evaluation Board TMS320C6678 uses the FPGA to handle all its power sequencing needs.

Currently, I am looking into the feasibility of using the UCD90XXX power sequencers to do this instead.
The UCD 90910 is able to monitor up to voltage rails 10 rails. This appears to be more than enough for the C6678.
To further evaluate, I am also planning to get an evaluation board UCD90SEQ64EVM to test out the sequencers and find out more about how they work.

After reading the power sequencing requirements of the C6678 and the capabilities of the UCD90910, I feel that the power sequencer could be used instead of the FPGA.

However, I would like to know if anyone had looked into using or had used this set of power sequencers or other similar ones for the C6678.
What are the issues that I should be paying extra attention to while trying to implement the C6678 power sequencing using the UCD90XXX power sequencers.

  • The UCD90xxx power supply sequencers are a good option for sequencing of Keystone devices.  Although we used the FPGA EVMs for the Keystone devices,  the UCD90xxxx family of sequencers will be used on the Keystone II EVM family.  The extra logic in the FPGA was used for expediency but we recognize that it's not a good reference for the customer.  Due to this we've asked the EVM designers for the next generation parts to provide an example using the sequencer family.  The first of these Keystone II designs should be available near the end of this year.

  • Hi Bill,

Thanks for clarifying the usage of the power sequencer.
I will continue to learn about the sequencer to figure out how it will replace the FPGA.

Do you happen to know when the reference schematics and design of the Keystone II EVM be released?

For now, other than reading the current documents from the EVM and C6678 documents, is there any other source that talks about using the power sequencer and the C6678?
