usb hubs crash kernel

I'm using the DM8168 PG2.0 and having problems with several USB hubs. We have an iomega usb hub that works fine, but several others cause the kernel (2.6.37) to crash and the z3 board we're using to reboot the moment the musb driver is loaded. One hub does not crash the kernel, but on bootup it causes the USB port it's connected to to not work. It works if I unplug the hub from the port it's connected to and plug it into the other port. It also works if I wait for the board to finish booting and then plug it in. I don't have any other devices connected to these hubs and these hubs work in other computers including linux computers.

Any suggestions?

What software are you using? Is it EZSDK or it is something else? My board is Spectrum Digital's DM816x EVM and I have EZSDK 5_04_00_11. I tried various usb hubs at my disposal and I do not encounter this problem.

My board is a Z3 Technologies Z3-DM8168-MOD-24. I'm using it with ezsdk 5_03_01_15. Are there changes in the kernel for ezsdk 5_04_00_11 versus 5_03_01_15 that would relate to this issue?

Carl,

I compared the kernel code under musb and yes there are changes. This doesn't mean this necessary is the cause of the problem, but you can try EZSDK 5_04_00_11.

I'll try to reproduce the issue with 5_03_01_15, but the problem is that I don't have Z3 board, nor I am able to try it with the exact same hubs. So if I am not able to reproduce it, there is the possibility that it occurs only with specific hubs or it is a Z3 specific issue. In the worst case, I hope that you can stick with your working hubs.

I built up a system using 5_04_00_11 ezsdk and it has the same problem. The moment the usb driver is loaded the board reboots. The hubs I've tried it with are pretty generic. One is a Targus. The others don't give a manufacturer's name. I'm not using an external power supply with any of them. It could be a problem with the hardware design on the Z3 board, so I'll check with them to see if they're aware of this issue.
