AM35x slow RAM Speed in in WinEC 7

Hi

What is the exact scenario that you have in the OS? Are you using an application to do the copy? If you're using an app, what is the priority of the app running? Are there more applications or drivers running at the same time? Have you tried a different board? From where are you trying to do the copy (ex. from SD Card to the device)?

I have tried to copy files with the windows explorer. More precisely I made a copy of one file in the root folder.

At the moment I use RAM and ROM filesystem. I found the following thread (http://e2e.ti.com/support/embedded/wince/f/353/t/96940.aspx?pi25291=3) which descripes similar problems. There I found that the object store is mabye the reason for the problem.

I have tried to enable cache filter for RAM filesystem, like in the thread mentioned:[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\StorageManager\AutoLoad\ObjectStore\Filters\CacheFilt]

This helps, but I only reach roughly 1-1,5MByte/s and the speed alternates during the copy event. With my i.MX25 board I have constant copy speeds of 2,5MByte/s. And the i.MX25 has a 16bit ddr2 connection with only 133MHz clock.

I have also tried ROM filesystem. With it the copy speed is faster (2,5MByte/s). But with this filesystem type I can't change program and storage memory division during the runtime.

In the thread that you have noted after the registry change the increase in performance is very large.

"In our experiments, we found that writing a 32MB file to \temp dir took ~13 secs before. With cache filter enabled, it takes ~0.475 secs. Please try this change and let us know if you see similar improvements."

Are you currently copping to an object store that is stored in Ram or is it mapped to SD/NAND?

My object store is stored in RAM.

No I don't reach such copy speeds. I rech only 2 - 2,5MByte/s, but also with my image at the LogicPD board.

Why? What can be the reason?

File copy is not the same as a mem copy in ram as it goes through the file system.  If you want to verify if the ram is running slower than expected it would be recommended to run a benchmark tool like QBench or BMQ and then compare to the values for the memory test with the values found in the following link.

Yes I know. The topic of the thread is not correct, because RAM speed is OK. With BMQ benchmark I reach the same speed like in the TI wiki specified.

But I don't understand why the copy speed to the File System in RAM (object store) is so slow?
