How to program timing generator of Netra ?

Hi,

I want to achieve below use case with Netra.

Is this feasible to synchronize two display devices connected to two Netra boards by manipulating timing generator of Netra?

Any solution to achieve this will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Sweta

  • Hi,

I think we have discussed this enough number of times and let me reiterate it once again, this is theoretically not possible.

  • Hi Hardik,

    Thanks again for getting back.

One question that is still open in my mind is, if this is not possible theoretically, then how video walls work ?

There are plenty of Video walls with separate display units, who generate 4x4, 9x9 or any customized resolutions and they work without any artifact ! Do you think all the displays are output of a single SoC ? Or in other word, does that mean the Netra is not best fit for Video Wall market segment ?

I just checked a thread and found that similar question is already discussed at http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/davinci_digital_media_processors/f/716/p/197494/704303.aspx, which gives me some hope.

I understand and agree that 100% synchronization can't be achieved theoretically. But there must be a way to achieve as much synchronization as possible.

  • Hi,

On video wall its possible to give pixel clock externally where all displays will be synchronized to same pixel clock. Netra doesn't support this.  Further as i have said practically it may work as suggested in post above.

  • Hi,

Also many of these video ports work in the slave mode so they are all dependent on the master clock. TI816x Video encoders does not work in the slave mode.

Also there will be tolerable difference in between among ports, if it goes beyond this limit, they will re-sync the video ports. It is not that trivial task.

What tolerable difference you are expectin?

    Thanks,

  • Hi Brijesh,

Non synchronization within 10/15 frames, assuming 60 fps for display should be okay.

I know that Pixel clock can't be controlled externally for Netra. You brought good point about re-syncing video ports beyond a certain limit.

Is this achievable at video o/p port ? Can you give me hint on this technique ?

    Thanks a bunch.
