eZdsp5535 driver source and installation

How do I obtain and install correct eZdsp5535 drivers in place of original microsoft USB drivers? When checking device manager with eZdsp5535 connected I see no TI drivers, just original microsoft PC USB drivers. I also use 28027 piccolo stick and when I connect it to USB the two TI driver channels correctly appear in the device manager so this can happen but 5535 USB connection shows no Ti driver channels for 5535. Reconnecting 5535 does not fix this. Where can the drivers be found and how do they install? Should they have auto-installed with CCS5.2? Other CCS5.2 settings apparently correct for eZdsp5535. Using the PC resource for changing drivers only reinstalls the original Microsoft PC drivers.

  • Hi Larry,

In device manager, are you able to see XDS100 Channel A and Channel B (like in this screenshot)?

If not, see "How do I reprogram my XDS100 embedded emulator" on http://support.spectrumdigital.com/boards/ezdsp5535/revc/files/ezdsp5535_faq.htm

The embedded emulator on a few C5535 eZdsps was not programmed before release. I wonder if you have received one of those.

Let me know if this helps,
    Mark

How do I reprogram my XDS100 embedded emulator

  • Hi Mark:

I've followed the instructions for reprogramming my XDS100 embedded emulator on my eZdsp5535 using MProg and the FT2232H.ept file which matches the chip on my eZdsp board.

Running MProg from the FT2232H.ept and from the Default results in no devices found, programmed or unprogrammed, and using 'read' returns 'No Devices Found.'

Multiple unplugging and plugging the USB to restart the eZdsp XDS100 does not improve the situation.

Yet trying MProg using my 28027 Piccolo Stick which has an FT2232D chip MProg quickly and repeatably shows '1 programmed device' and using 'read' produces the contents of the EEPROM. So I appear to have MProg running right but while extensive checking, changing connecting cables and ports works fine with the Piccolo the eZdsp5535 never, ever shows up in MProg.

No XDS100 channel A and/or channel B has ever turned up in my PC device manager for this board either so the eZdsp XDS100 is seriously refusing to talk to my PC.

Just after receiving the eZdsp I carefully mounted it in a small metal box so no parts could get knocked off in handling or laying the board around and I used anti-static precautions during mounting and in the box to prevent damage to the eZdsp board so it's likely not just a messed up part or static damage.

The power and four colored LEDs all come on when the USB is connected so the board is at least powered up. The OLED display comes up and scrolls 'play audio through your PC' for awhile, then that stops, pieces of the eZdsp seem functional.

    Suggestions?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Larry,

    Sorry for the trouble...

Are you are connecting to the larger USB connector on the C5535 eZ (labelled J2)

    Regards,
    Mark

  • Hi Mark:

My PC connects to the eZ via USB port 1 (J1) as shown in the little guide that comes with the eZ and as suggested by the inclusion of a USB mini-jack ended cable to do the connecting with. Caution against using J2 for CCS programming connection to the board is nicely visible at one or more places I've seen whilst studying the board.

  • Hi Larry,

On the C5535 eZdsp, the J1 mini USB jack connects to the C5535 USB peripheral, and enables the USB Audio Class out of box demo.

The J2 standard Type A USB jack connects to the XDS100 emulator, which enables debugging with CCS.

In the C5535 eZdsp Quick Start Guide, Section 4.0 C5535 eZdsp Audio Demonstration reads (4.) "Make sure the C5535 eZdsp is NOT plugged into the PC via the J2 connector."

However Section 5.0 C5535 eZdsp Code Composer Studio Installation reads (2.) "At this time plug the C5535 eZdsp J2 connector into a USB port ... on your PC"

Does your box have a hole cut for the J2 connector? I am interested in seeing how the box looks.

    Hope this helps,
    Mark

  • Hi Mark:

MProg can find and read the XDS100 through J2.

    Looks like it's now working.

    Thanks!!!

  • Hi Mark:

If you want to see my little boxed eZdsp5535 I'll be glad to send a shot of it if you can give me a target e-mail add. or other place to post one. It's very nice.

I didn't have the J2 hole in it but that's no problem, just a tad of metal work away. In order to use it I take the cover off so I can see the LEDs and OLED display, otherwise when stored it's tucked inside nice pretty protection.
