How to access DSP processor?

Hi,

I am fairly new to ARM & DSP based programming. Recenlty, I started programming on ARM processor (some basic applications like reading from the terminal, factorial etc). Now I would like to use DSP processor to program complex operations like dot product, multiply two signed 32 bit numbers, calculate DCT etc. Is there any place where I can find DSP command set or DSP examples. 

I have EVM 8148 Mistral board where I am creating an executable file using GCC compiler. Please let me know how to access DSP processor from the C file.
