DM648 and DM647 discontinuation?

Hi,

it seems that DM648 (and DM647) will be discontinued. The DM648 page is not linked any more in the main "DaVinci Digital Video Processors" index. On the DM648 page, the status changed from ACTIVE to LIFEBUY. In the current datasheet rev H (april), the status was changed without notification or new revision.

what is happening here? Does someone of you know details about the background of this and about the time frame? Are there any new alternatives to the DM648?

It seems that the only new alternative is good old 642… :)

The reason seems to be an interanal process change, see http://tinyurl.com/cdotb5r and that there are successor devices (e.g. TMS320DM647CUT7 follows TMS320DM647ZUT7). However - the way DM647 / 648 vanishes from ti.com, that it is set to "LIFEBUY" on http://www.ti.com/product/tms320dm648 and that the datasheet is changed backdated to april with the same revision seems strange to me.

I received the confirmation from EPIC (european TI support) today that DM647/DM648 is NOT in "LIFEBUY" status but "ACTIVE". The pdf linked above (http://tinyurl.com/cdotb5r) is true.
