BSP Support for Managed Nand (eMMC)

Yes, eMMC should be supported by the BSP. A possible issue is if the specs for the MMC is a higher version then the one supported in the BSP. If this is the case look at the specs for the MMC, minimal modifications should be needed.

   The winec7 BSP provided by Adeneo supports only 16 bit NAND device so make sure u meet all the spec(Supporte by Adeneo BSP).

Thanks for the response. I have looked in the Adeneo documentation for information "WinCE-BSP ARM-A8 User Guide", however I cannot find the details. Perhaps this information is in a TI Wiki?

If you can point me to the extra documentation of what is supported in the BSP then this would really help.

Or a more direct question is whether the Micron eMMC devices, using JEDEC-standard 4.41 e·MMC interface, will be supported in the BSP?

Could you tell me how many bit nand are you trying to use.

It looks like the Micron parts are all 8-bit wide ...

Then make changes in these files

1) bspcfg.c

2) fmd.c

3) cfg.c

4) imgcfg.h

The eMMC support in the BSP is incomplete. I finally got it to work in 8bit high speed mode but had to make many modifications but I was also booting from the device ...which is a bit harder to implement.

   Were you able to get the partitions done in NAND.

Are you able to see the Mounted volume in the filesystem.

  I had made necessary changes to the required files,i am able to detect nand read the manufacture id and device id and even able to see it on storage manager. But i am not able to mount it on the windows explorer , it would be of great help if you can post the solution.

If I remember correctly the AM/DM37xx cannot be configured to boot from an iNAND device on SDHC3.

I used:

 SDHC1= uSD card

 SDHC2= iNAND (eMMC)

 SDHC3=wifi

With this I was able to boot from the iNAND device.

If you are booting from the uSD card this is not an issue. I am not sure if the AM335x allows booting from SDHC3.

On BeagleBone black:

SDHC1=uSD card

SDHC2=iNAND (eMMC)

If you want to boot from MMC1 with the iNAND device, you have to change the sysboot configuration on the SoC to tell it to load the bootloader from that device. I see SYSBOOT[4:0]=11100b as an option, on page 4258 of AM335xCoretexA8.pdf. More information on the boot procedure for booting from an eMMC card can be found in section 26.1.7.5 of the reference manual.

However, if you mean you want to use the eMMC in the OS as a user disk, then you will have to verify and modify as necessary the pin/pad configuration for the MMC1 controller, and make sure the clocks are enabled to the controller. This will allow communication to the eMMC card over the SD interface via the SDBUS and SDHC drivers. However, the stock drivers do not support newer eMMC devices and must be modified to write to an 8 bit bus, handle high capacity SD cards, handle higher frequency cards, and support the newer MMC specification detection and initialization routine.

You can find the SDBUS sources in the C:\WINCE700\PUBLIC folder. From here, you can clone the driver and modify it as appropriate to support the features of the eMMC card.

Thank you for answer, can you say - is this possible to divide eMMC into three  partitions?

I am want one partition for XLDR+Eboot+NK.bin, one partition( rare read\write cycles) for executable files, and one partition(often read\write cycles) for user data.

And i am need TFAT on this partitions.

yes it can be done but it take quite a bit of work.

I did just this on my 3730 platform but I had to create a MBR ahead of time that contained the partition records.

Also, you can not use TFAT on the boot partition as the XLD loader on the chips firmware only understands FAT.

Yes, it is possible to partition the eMMC. It looks like MMC1 supports raw reading only however, so you will have to place your xldr/eboot/nk in a raw section at the beginning of the SD card and then create an MBR with partition table after this for partitioning the two last partitions with TFAT. This will require heavy modification tot he bootloader and some modification, mostly to the registry settings of the SDHC driver to set up the user disks.

Please refer to the documentation I mentioned for details on the romcode's boot process when loading out of MMC1.
