DDR3 memory on AM335x

Hi Support,

I'm designing a board with the AM335x, and want to use memories from Hinyx H5TC4G63MFR-G7A that have a very good price.

Have they been tested with this processor?

Hi Sandro,

The Hynix part is a Low Power DDR3 (1.35V). The AM335X datasheet states that the processor works with mDDR(LPDDR), DDR2 and DDR3 memories. Recommended power supply range for DDR3 memories is 1.5V (see Table 3-4, values for VDDS_DDR). I don't think the processor has been certified to work with LPDDR3 memories.

Hi Sandro,

Yes, this is a proper DDR3 alright.

The AM335X Starter Kit (product page: http://www.ti.com/tool/tmdssk3358, wiki page: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_Starter_Kit) is designed with Micron 16-bit DDR3-1600 part # MT41J128M16JT-125 (http://www.micron.com/~/media/Documents/Products/Data%20Sheet/DRAM/2Gb_DDR3_SDRAM.pdf). I doubt that the AM335X has been actually tested with the Hynix part, but you could compare the parameters of your chosen part against the Micron part and decide. Only difference should be the bus width (8-bit vs.16-bit).
