What is a ACE memory?

When read 335x datasheet I read:

The on-chip memory controller consists of two separate modules that are OCP to ACE wrappers for ACE memories.

What is ACE memory? I searched the datasheet and get thousands of "interface", "place", etc. and I googled, but I can't find a answer.

Thank you and best regards,

Lihua

  • And other 2 acronyms:

This device uses only the RAM wrapper which supports both BRGS
single port and GLG single port CRAM.

What's BRGS and GLG stand for?

I filled several acronyms in this link:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Acronyms#Acronyms

Could you please explain the ones remarked "/*FIXME*/"?

    Thank you.

Ah, I have to spend much time struggle with the acronyms when reading the datasheet. that makes me headache. It's very painful to a TI's new user.

  • Hi,

These acronyms (ACE, GLG, BRGS) are related to TI RAM naming conventions and are not really relevant for end-uses of TI devices as these are implementation related names and do not add to the functional description available in TRM and Datasheets. So, please ignore these acronyms.

We will make an effort to not include these acronyms in customer documentation.

    Thanks.

  • Hi Maneesh,

Thanks for reply. I'll ignore them then.

  • Hi Maneesh,

thanks for that you were answering, and also I am grateful for each effort you all make to avoid including acronyms being not relevant for us end-users. But never you'll win this game: the more current your documents are (which I welcome very much), the more also such acronyms will be contained, at least for a first while.

I heartily beseech you all to provide explanations for ALL acronyms, in spite of being used internally or in general.

Please provide at least the words behind the letters, in best additionally a short explanation or as a hint a link.

So very often I felt, too. Thatswhy once I started the acronyms page in the TI wiki. Each information piece helps. If the wiki syntax of the table seems to complicated for a short and easy entry, just leave your information here in the forum or place it at the acronyms page below "Incoming" (which I added explicitely for that reason) - the community will replace that later into the overview.

    Thanks in advance,
    Joern.

  • Joern,

Unfortunately, TI cannot publish internal nomenclature system for the memories used in AM335x and other products.

    Maneesh

  • Maneesh,

thanks for answering so frankly and fast. It's clear that you cannot change from one day to another internal decisions. But anyway I'd encourage you to try a change concerning this. Also those nouns might be marked as unwanted in an overview - with suggested replacements.

The acronymitis in general makes reading documents extremely unpleasant and difficult.

If for some reasons (name rights, whatever) you cannot give an acronym's translation word by word, so please just give a replacement for it, an other acronym or a short explanation. Or, in some extreme situations, maybe just state something like "That acronym may be ignored and removed anywhere, it has no actual meaning for the customer, at least we don't want him to know that meaning, but we ensure he will nothing misinterpret if reading the text by fading out this acronym." So that finally we know what is meant by that acronym or how to handle it.

Besides, that elsewhere in the forum in the meanwhile f.e. ACE has been translated into "Adaptive Communication Environment" helps not too much concerning "ACE memory", at least for me. If at all that translation is correct.

    Kind regards,
    Joern.

  • Joern,

The feedback on acronym handling in documentation has already been provided to our documentation teams and you would see some change in future revisions.

On ACE, the acronym currently interpreted in the acronym page is incorrect. The acronym ACE can be interpreted as the technical procedure that is used to create memories inside a chip.

    Thanks,

    Maneesh
