Debugging Qt application and ideas for my application

Dear All,

I'm working on a project in which a single master controls many slaves connected to it in rs485 communication. The master has got a display(either LCD+Touchscreen or a dvi-d monitor). The master also has got a usb keyboard and mouse. I have a beagleboard xm with me. So ideally, I will have serial working everytime with usb and there will be some processing with the data received from slaves. I am using Sitara SDK with ccsv5.

For the UI, I thought I will use Qt which comes as a integrated one with ccsv5. But Is it possible to debug my Qt application using JTAG(I have a XDS100v2 jtag with me)?

Also is it possible to access, usb (keyboard and mouse) with serial in Qt.?

If not kindly suggest me which can be used to accomplish my goal.

Hi Badri,

Since you are using the Sitara SDK, I would recommend that you look into using QTCreator for development. It uses GDB instead of JTAG, but provides a nice environment for development. TI does not provide QT creator, but it can be downloaded and integrated into the Sitara SDK filesystem: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Qt_Creator_Embedded_Debugging_Setup,

I'm not sure about accessing keyboard and mouse via serial, but you QT provides online documentation.

Hi Jeff,

Thanks for your reply. I tried out the steps mentioned in the links. But I get the following error:

"SSH connection failure: Connection refused Device test failed." from QT Creator

Can you help me on this?

Additionally, I want to know which development environment can be adopted for jtag debugging(XDS100v2), or is it not possible and I should only use gdb?

Hi Badri,

You can use JTAG for Debug, see this page: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Linux_Debug_in_CCSv5#Linux_Aware_Debug

Also for the SSH error, are you using the file system that comes with the SDK 05.05.00.00, it should contain all necessary ssh functionality?

@Jeff I tried out and resolved out the problem of connecting to target. I configured static ip and then the problem got resolved.

However in Qt Creator, I am not able to launch my debugger.

I get the error.

The gdb process exited unexpectedly code 127.

In the tutorial you mentioned for qt creator, the debugging step isnt given. Right now I tried with

Start Debugging->Attach To Remote Debug Server.

I chose the architecture as arm, host and port as my target's but what to give in GNU target(the options are auto, am-none-eabi, but arago is missing)

Also what to give in Sysroot and location of debugging info and override host script?

Kindly help out.

I'm getting the following error in my console:

UNEXPECTED GDB STDERR: /data/Sitara/linux-devkit/bin/arm-arago-linux-gnueabi-gdb: error while loading shared libraries: libpython2.6.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Is it any problem with Qt installation?

@Jeff. thanks a lot for your good support. The problem was due to my python libraries, I was using ubuntu 12.04 and I have pythonlibraries 2.7 installed on my system. I used deadsnakes to install libpython 2.6 and my problem got solved. I am able to debug my code now. Thank you once again!!
