External USB Camera Driver for Android

Hi,

I am using TMDXEVM8148 for one of our application where i need to use external USB Camera for video capture and the OS is Android.

Want to know that any driver support is available for this in Android and if so, pointers to some materials to read about.

Hello,

Please, check is there something valuable in your kernel with menuconfig, xconfig, etc. There should be some drivers. Something like:

-> Device Drivers
-> Multimedia support
-> Video capture adapters
-> V4L USB devices

You can refer to TI814X Linux (2.6.37+) usb user's guide, http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Usbgeneralpage#USB_Video. Hope this could help.

Thanks for the information. An additional question on the maximum capture resolution supported by an External USB camera in Android/Platform.?

Is it able to support Full HD resolution capture?

Hello,

Yes, in general I think it is possible. You have to use Full HD camera that has kernel driver for it. If the driver is proper and utilizes the camera features, you'll achieve the HD resolutions. As you probably know, to connect such camera, you'll need a USB in a Host mode.
