Display Issue

Hi everyone,

I just got my Sitara AM335x Starter Kit, and I'm looking forward to using it, but the darn display won't even turn on. I know this is probably the most elementary problem someone could have with this thing, but I hope you won't mind helping me out anyway. I just got it, put in the Android ICS micro sd provided, plugged in the power and pushed the power button. The power LED turns on and stays on, but that's it. If you have any thoughts, I would really appreciate it.

Have you checked the serial logs? This will give an idea on what is happening during bootup.

The Starter Kit goes through testing before shipping out and the display is checked as part of those tests. Did you by chance check the included Linux SD card to see if that brings the display up?

I did check the Linux microSD and that didn't bring up the display either.

James,

Can you connect a serial (null modem) cable to the PC and use Teraterm/Hyperterminal/Minicom to see the serial logs sent from the board? If you can see that, could you please share the logs? The setup instructions for this should be available as part of the documentation.

There's a link on the Starter Kit web page: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335x_Starter_Kit#Hardware_Documentation that shows how to contact for a return (which may or may not be necessary after they check a few things).

Before doing that, please do a quick check of the LCD connector to make sure the flex cable is inserted properly in the connector.

@Renjith Thomas: The board doesn't have a serial null modem connector. All it has are 1 microUSB, 1 standard USB, 2 ethernet ports and a microSD slot.

@ddomke: Thank you for the link. I have been in contact with TI but am waiting to hear back from someone. The ribbon also appears to be fully connected.

You can connect to the micro usb connector. You'll be able to see a USB to serial port in device manager of your PC.

Unfortunately, I don't have an adapter handy. Any other thoughts or am I out of luck for the time being?

I'm sorry, with serial logs its easy to debug. Other wise it will take lot of time.

@Vishveshwar Bhat: I'm in Ubuntu and I booted into minicom like the guide says. When I start the board, all the console says is "CCCCCCCCCC" over and over. I am unable to enter any new commands once that begins.
