Hello,

I am trying to embed GPS data onto a picture taken from my camera (specifically the GoPro Hero 2). Can this easily be done using any DSP chip? All I need to know is if it can be done, and how difficult it would be; this is just a preliminary search before starting a project.

Hi Gerald,

Yes, it can be done. How difficult it will be will be based on your experience with electronics. Are you looking to modify your GoPro to take GPS data? Are you starting this project by yourself or with a team of people?

Thanks for the response. I'm working in a 2 person group for my senior design project. We know the basics of microcontrollers. We have a GPS module, and we have the GoPro Hero 2 taking pictures. The GoPro 2 will be controlled by a microcontroller.

So what we want is to be able to just modify the exif data of the pictures to include the GPS data.

If a DSP (or something else) can easily do that, we would be very happy! Since we are only changing the exif data, could even a CC430F6137 microcontroller handle that? Maybe not because we will be taking 11MP pictures with the GoPro.

What do you think?
