Blaze T2 (TEVM4470G-05-10-00) does not have Android (AI or AJ) UI on LCD - only has uboot animation and UI on mirrored HDMI

I have just received a new TEVM4470G-05-10-00 with processor board  4470 GP ES1.0(D) and main board 2158-004.

It will not display a UI on main LCD (on all android binaries I've tested)

- the uboot splash animation is shown so hw is functional

- if I plug in an HDMI the UI is available by mirroring so android is running correctly

- the touchscreen on tablet is also working.

I've attached the boot log from AJ1.1 (http://omappedia.org/wiki/Android:_Working_with_pre-built_binaries).

Can someone help on this?

Thanks, Iain

  • Iain,

Do you mean that you see the screen with the "ANDROID" letters on the LCD?  And then the LCD is just black?

You are using a Blaze Tablet 2, correct?  For Tablet 2, the back/home/browser buttons are located on the long side (landscape mode), as opposed to Tablet 1, where the buttons are located on the short side (portrait mode).  And you are using the pre-built binaries for Blaze Tablet, not for Blaze, correct?  (There are different sets of prebuilt binaries for Blaze and Blaze Tablet on this wikipage: http://www.omappedia.com/wiki/Android:_Working_with_pre-built_binaries)  I assume that your fastboot flash was successful and that you are trying to boot from eMMC?

  • Gina,

It is a Tablet 2. I am using omap4_emmc_files_blaze_tablet_aj1.1.tar.gz from that precompiled binaries page.

If I use an ICS release you are correct I get the "android" logo, on JB it is a more colourful shatter glass type image, then it goes black.

Every thing boots successfully and I can fully operate the tablet IF I connect a monitor on HDMI (mirroring UI) and guess the touchscreen locations or use a USB mouse. Home key works fine and outer buttons seem to be mapped to an up and down audio volume function.

  • Iain,

Is the log that you sent all of the output that you get on the serial terminal?  ie, Can you press a key in the terminal and enter commands?  If so, type "logcat" to collect the Android debug messages.

Can you also try pressing the home key to wakeup the Tablet?  Normally the splash screen with the spiraling colorful shapes appears for a few seconds, then the Android GUI appears for a short while, then the screen times out and goes to black.  You can change the screen timeout from the Settings->Display menu in Android.  However, it is very strange that the Android GUI is not appearing at all and that the HDMI works fine.

Do you have any other hardware you can test with?  We have verified the prebuilt binaries here, and several other people have used these binaries without any issue.

    Thank you,
    Gina

  • Gina,

    I'll get logcat on Monday.

My concern is that the 05-10-00 release of the T2 is so new it is not even listed on internal sites. It is also not a problem specific to JB as I get same behaviour on all ICS  images I've tried as well. We do not have any older revisions of T2.

Pressing home key does not wake up screen. I can run tablet using external HDMI to view UI and press all the buttons and use touchscreen with nothing being seen on LCD.

    Thanks, Iain

  • Gina,

I just received another unit from the same batch (TEVM4470G-05-10-00 ) and it works fine so there must have been a problem with that unit.
