Standard Definition(SD) display on DM8168

Hi,

I am working on a display system on DM8168. I am using HDMI out for video display. Currently I have support for full screen 720p and 1080p display.

I wanted to add support for display of SD resolutions(480p and 576p).

Is there support for SD resolutions in VPSS?
- If yes, is there a configuration to get the display over the entire screen?
- Or will the screen resolution still be 720p / 1080p, and the display be a windowed display?

Hi Anup,

did you mean, just the size of video is SD or you are asking for SD DAC support ? Please refer to PSP video user guide for supported resolution.

Hi Vimal,

I referred to the PSP Video User Guide (http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/TI81XX_VPSS_Video_Driver_User_Guide#VPSS_Driver).

Here is what the UG talks about. Display of SD resolution is supported on composite output. This implies a support for SD-DAC. This is fine.

I see that VPSS supports only HD resolutions over HDMI. The UM lists the following resolutions - 1080p-60/1080p-30/1080i-60/720p-60.

What I wanted to check was, if SD is supported over HDMI. I know that I can choose a HD display resolution and then display the SD video in a window. But, what I would like to check is, if a full-screen SD display is supported.

Hi,

SD standards like NTSC and PAL are not supported over HDMI output. but NTSC resolutions like 480P(720X480) and PAL 567P (720X576) are supported over HDMI. This is supported in the latest PSP release that is 04.01.00.14 or 04.04.00.01 release.
