What is wrong with my DM368 captured image from MT9P031 Sample attached

Hi all

I have been tripping over trying to understand what is wrong with my custom system. It uses a DM368 and an MT9P031 sensor with Ridge Run auto exposure AEW library.

It doesn't matter what I adjust, contrast, gains, edge enhancer, brightness etc. etc. but I cannot get a sharper picture than this below. It seems somewhat washed out or soft or blurry. I suspect there is something going wrong at the bayer color conversion.

Any hints would be dearly appreciated.

Regards,

Peter

  • Peter,

First of all, please clarify what you meant by sharper image. Do you really want to get better contrast, or really sharper edges?

There are several things you can try to get sharper edges:

    1. Make sure your lens is properly focused and has enough resolution. If you use CCTV type lens for the 5M capture, you will be sure to get blurry image.

    1. Use cropping mode instead of binning mode in the 9P031 sensor.

    2. Increase the strength of the edge enhancement module in the IPIPE.

To enhance the contrast, try the following:

    1. Make sure the image black level is correct, i.e., make sure black is really black when captured.

    2. Change the gamma curve.

    3. Use a histogram based AE.

  • Hi Xiangdong Fu

Thank you very much for your reply.

Yes I guess I am looking for sharper edges. Contrast adjustment does work but does not solve the problem. I have attached another image below from an indoor scene. Light was not great but not bad either.

    1. In the end I have had so many doubts about the lenses and have tried many of what should be suited lenses but it seems that when I set it at the best focus position I cannot get any depth out of it. Images are very clear when aimed at something very close up but when they are about 3 feet away or more then they appear out of focus, no matter how much I adjust focus it will only focus on something less than 3 feet away. Yes it is essentially a CCTV lens with M12 mount with multi megapixel capability. Due to my doubts about focus I have started using a lens from a GoPro Hero which has a 5MP sensor also. The viewing angle on this lens is too much but the results are even worse.

1.1 The image attached is 1920x1088 and cropped from the sensor. ie the centred rectangle of 1920x1088 pixels from the sensors range.

    2. I have tried using the edge enhancer and see very little effect if any. I have been using the setting from the DVSDK imp_prev_rsz examples.

    Contrast:

    1. Black objects do look black.

    2. I have found the gamma curve programming setup difficult to understand and so I am just using the default values from the DVSDK examples.

    3. I believe the RidgeRun RRAEW library is a histogram based AE.
