I just purchased, the kit. I am trying to test it in Linux. Can I compile on the board, and test chipsets, or do I have to purchase those seperate. How do I set this thing up. I am just would like to do basic audio processing....

Have you installed Code Composer yet? Please see attached link as the starting point for using the LCDK: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/L138/C6748_Development_Kit_(LCDK).
Thanks
David
Hi David,
I have code composer installed, I am just wondering, if I need to purchase, the chipset that goes inside the development kit, to run test codes, or is there a default chipset.
Thanks.
Clayton
Clayton
When you say chipset, are you referring to the C6748 DSP? There should one DSP on the EVM board.
Thanks
David
Hi Clayton,
In C6748 DSP processor, it has a C6748 DSP core.
SYS/BIOS or DSP/BIOS can be ported to this processor.
You can not port the Linux in this DSP processor, since it does not have ARM core.
Please refer the below link for software support:

I bought the TMS320CC6748 DSP development kit LCDK. Does the C6748 DSP processor come with it, or do I have to purchase it.
I have no intention of running linux on the processor, I am using LINUX as my operating system, at my host computer....
So I just run css from linux, and connect it, and tell it C6748 processor, and I am good to go?
Clayton
Yes, please see this link for CSS training: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Category:Code_Composer_Studio_v5.
Thanks
David
David,
I am using linux not windows, so the SD card that came with it did not work. After I select the chipset, it says please select the board type.... what do I put/Download?
Thanks
Clayton
Are you trying to create a new GCC project? Please see the attached link on how to start in CC5: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/How_to_create_GCC_projects_in_CCSv5.
Thanks
David
David,
I have the TMS320C6748 DSP Development kit.
I did not purchase a seperate on board chip.
I assume there is an onboard chip that I can download my code from my computer to.
I am using Ubuntu Linux and CSS with linux.
Can you please simply tell me how to download a hello world program to the board step by step.
I am connected via USB cable.
Thanks
Clayton
I would point you toward this site: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/L138/C6748_Development_Kit_(LCDK). Scroll all the way down and you would see a section titled 'LCDK Documentation ', and a 'Getting Started Guide for OMAP-L138 LCDK Linux Software Development Kit' doc. for downloading the program.
Thanks
David
David,
Why did the board ship with CSS?
And on a micro SD card of all thing...
So I do not use CSS?
What do I need to just send my programs to the board?
And I do not need to purchase a separate chip to attached to the kit, I can run programs on the development board as is?
Clayton
Hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes here but I sense cross purposes between some of the posters.
Clayton, if you have a C6748 LCDK (as opposed to an OMAP-L138 LCDK) this contains a C6748 core and not an ARM (+ C6748) core. You cannot run Linux on the C6748 LCDK. You can use Code Composer Studio on a Linux host machine in order to develop code to run on the C6748 on your LCDK but (and I think this is the crucial pice of information that you're missing) you need a JTAG emulator in order to communicate between your Linux host and the C6748 LCDK. I am not aware of any other means of communicating between Code Composer on your host machine and the C6748 on the LCDK. XDS100 emulators are relatively inexpensive ($89) but do not have the speed or all of the features of XDS510 emulators ($1000). I don't think that TI have made it as clear as they might have done that you need a JTAG emulator in order to develop code for the C6748 LCDK.

Donald
You are stepping on my toes, but it happens that is why I wear shoes.
I am running linux on my Laptop. The kit I bought came with CSS for windows. I want to just run some test with it, I am not yet sure about mass producing a program I make. I just want to compile and run some programs, on Linux on my computer, and SYS/BIOS or perhaps nothing on the board.
How do I do that exactly, and can I use my linux with CSS?
If it is really that hard, how do I do it in windows....
Do I just run the software that came with it, can I run it under VMware Windows?
Hi Clayton,
When you say CSS, do you mean Code Composer Studio? I'm assuming that you do and that you want to use Code Composer Studio as the development environment in which to create code to run on the C6748 processor on your C6748 LCDK. You can download Code Composer Studio that will run on a Linux host machine (PC) from here
http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/Download_CCS
I have done this myself, i.e. downloaded and installed Code Composer Studio version 5.3 on a Ubuntu 10.04 machine. I have then developed code for a C6748 LCDK and loaded and run it.
You need a JTAG emulator to connect your Linux machine to your LCDK. Spectrum Digital offer a range of these, e.g.
You will need a license to use Code Composer with this, or
this will work with Code Composer free license option.
Hope this helps.
Donald
So with the JTAG emulator I am good to go?
Do I need anything else, like other things that would attach to the board?
Do I need the JTAG emulator if I am running windows?
I thought the 200 dollar kit was the cheapest option... I do not under stand why I need this JTAG emulator when I already have a USB port on the board, why cant my jtag emulator be run in software....

I do not under stand why I need this JTAG emulator when I already have a USB port on the board, why cant my jtag emulator be run in software.... ... combined with an xds100 JTAG emulator, the LCDK gives the LogicPD eXperimenter a run for its money as the least expensive C6748 development system available. You need some extra hardware to implement JTAG emulation but why JTAG emulation is not built into the C6748 LCDK I don't know. In this respect, the C6748 LCDK appears to stand out from the vast majority of TI's inexpensive EVM/DSKs in that you must buy further hardware in order to develop on it in the standard CCS way. I'm trying to think of whether you can do anything at all with the C6748 LCDK on its own. Perhaps you can flash it via a serial connection.

This so stupid.
I bought it, it had a usb port on the picture...
Why isn't the emulation just built into my home computer....
I have to buy another piece of hardware, to do what software can do?
That doesn't make sense...
It cost 1000 dollars you say?
