Hello,
Does H.264 encoder support interlaced encoding of field type only (no frame type coding) ?
What does it mean if a coder support interlaced frame type coding, does it mean that it does de-interlacing before encoding ?

Ran

I dont know which platform you are talking, but most of TI platforms supports interlaced encoding for H.264. In such case, we take field picture and enode it as field picture as defined in H.264 standard. There is no de-interlacing done in the encoder.

Hi Yashwant,
Does TI's MPEG-4 part 2 codec also use only field encoding for interlace ? As I understand this will result in two elementary streams, Does decoding two elementary streams demands synchronization in decoder between both streams ?

Ran,
The two fields of an interlaced frame does not make two elementary stream. They are indeed one. Each picture is a field picture and they would be encoded as T B T B T B ...it the stream.

Hi Yashwant,
Isn't it contradict reply in http://e2e.ti.com/support/embedded/multimedia_software_codecs/f/356/p/227600/800536.aspx#800536 ?
Thanks,
