Hello,

I would like to ask the following questions about rate control:

1. CBR - how is the CBR rate achieved, is it done by outputing zeros ?

2. VBR - is there a deviation parameter for the maximum/minimum distance of rate from the average ? I did not find such parameters.

Hi Ran,

- CBR follows strict buffer compliance and can output skip frame in order to control the bitrate.

- VBR will not skip frame but still maintains average bitrate over a given period. The period is decided by the VBV buffer side. The instantaneous bitrate of a give P or I frame may be high compared to the running average bitrate. But an API parameter to contrl the peaks is also provided.
