Im an EE student at Cal Poly working on a pitch identification project. The goal is to take a monophonic audio signal input (through a XLR, 3.5mm audio jack, OR TRS - TRS and XLR can be converted to 3.5mm) and perform DSP to figure out what pitch is being played at all times in real time. The output is stream of serial MIDI data that represents the notes that are being played. Right now we are trying to decide which DSP Evaluation Kit (and so which processor) to buy. I dont know what algorithm we are going to be using, but its only monophonic, so maybe some windowing, an FFT and some other things in the frequency domain, or possibly some auto-correlation algorithm in the time domain (or possibly take a two pronged approach in the frequency and time domain?). But the goal is to have the system work in real time. I dont know anything about selecting DSP, so a link to an explanation of DSP processor specs, or choosing a processor would be great. Or if anyone can specifically suggest a kit/chip for this application that would be fantastic. So far the TMDX5535EZDSP and the MPDSCFK6713 have been suggested.
