Hello,

what is the need of 74AVC32T245 IC BUS TRANSCVR inthe LCD cape?

Is it necessary?

Hi Ameesh,

The purpose is to provide a means for voltage translation. It isn't necessary if your LCD operates at the same I/O voltage levels as the processor.

Thanks for your reply.

In Beaglebone LCD cape datasheet they says On the BeagleBone LCD7 Cape, no voltage translation required since its two power rails are both 3.3V.The chip is only using as a buffer.In their cape LCD and chip both are working in 3.3v.

So that is my question then the chip necessary?

Can you please check and answer?

Hi Ameesh,

In this case it isn't necessary. But there may be other cases, where LCD voltage is different from 3.3V, then voltage translation will be needed. This is the reason the chip is there - so different LCD's can be used with the same LCD board.
