CAN interface with AM335x EVM

Hi All,

I have few questions related to CAN interface at AM335x EVM:

1. Is there any sample code readily available for receving/sending data through CAN interface?

2. Are CAN drivers are available with sitara Linux 05.04.00.00 (provided with EVM)? If so could anyone tell me whether they are provided as networking driver or character driver?

3. What location should i search into linux to see the CAN drivers?

Any response would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Biser,

Thanks for your help. I found this while reviewing the reference link provided by you.

DCAN device driver in Linux is provided as a networking driver that confirms to the socketCAN interface
The driver is currently build-into the kernel with the right configuration items enabled

In that perspective, if i want to have the incoming data at Board in continuos looping manner, what steps am i supposed to follow.?

Also when i issue "ifconfig" coomand at AM335x terminal, there is nothing showing like "can0" network interface. Do i need to enable/install/make it first from the location : \ti-sdk-am335x-evm-05.05.00.00\board-support\linux-3.2.0-psp04.06.00.08.sdk\drivers\net\can ??

Also what could be the procedure if i go with CAN as character device interface ?

Hi Mandar,

Make sure that you are testing this way

1. DCAN1 is available in EVM with daughter card in profile"1" details at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335X_DCAN_Driver_Guide#Port_details

2. quicksteps to test dcan controller at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335X_DCAN_Driver_Guide#Quick_Steps

3. Make sure that the package you are using have canutils at http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/AM335X_DCAN_Driver_Guide#CAN_Utilities

Go through the can documentation to know more details on how to implement CAN driver at http://www.kernel.org/doc/Documentation/networking/can.txt and it has some pointers on character driver implementation.

Hi Mandar,

please provide "dmesg" output and "ifconfig -a"

to receive/send frames please download and install can-utils from http://gitorious.org/linux-can/can-utils

dcan gets working using its utilities provided with sitara linux (canconfig, cansend, candump etc) in EVM profile 1
