DM385/DM8148 Memory

Hello

  1. In the datasheet is written that it support 32bit DDR2/DDR3 in 400MHz, but as I can see in Mistral EVM there are 4 DDRAM (2Gbit each) in 800MHz is it OK?
  2. In our application there is a requirement using 2Gbyte of RAM is there any suggestion for connection? (4Gbx4 or 8Gbx2)
Thanks for your support
Tal
  • Hello Tal,

Regarding DM814x: please, check DM814x TRM Chapters 7.6.1 Configuring DDR2/DDR3 Memory Controller Registers to Meet DDR2 SDRAM
Specifications and 7.6.2 Configuring DDR2/DDR3 Memory Controller Registers to Meet DDR3 SDRAM Specifications. I think one frequency referred is the SDRAM Clock Frequency, while the other SDRAM Data Rate.

DM814x Datasheet says at the Features section: Up to Eight x 8 Devices Total 2 GB Total Address Space.

    Thank you.

    BR

  • Hi Vladimir

Thanks for your support, do you know if there is any application note/reference design how to connect 2GB of RAM?

    Thanks
    Tal

  • Hi Tal,

Please check the DM814X Datasheet, section 8.13.4.2 for DDR3. There are two EMIF interfaces on the DM814X. Figures 8-54 and 8-55 show how to connect 2x16-bit and 4x8-bit memories. As this is per EMIF, you will need 1GB per EMIF if you use both EMIF's (recommended). This would be either 2 x 4Gbit 16-bit  memories or 4 x 2Gbit 8-bit memories per EMIF.

    For DDR2 the relevant Datasheet section is 8.13.4.1 and figure 8-47 (2 x 4Gbit 16-bit  memories).
