multimedia device...doing it from scratch

Hello,

For a while i've been interested in building a multimedia device from scratch.

The first thing I would some tips on is on prototyping for  PBGA packages.  before making the final PCB design.

suggestions?

  • Slair,

What kind of multimedia device are you targeting?

Depending on the requirements, you can pick one system on chip which will be capable enough to support your performance requirements. Then you can buy one of the evaluation modules available for the particular silicon and do a software proof of concept of your application. During or after this phase you can start doing a hardware prototype of your end device.

  • thanks for the reply,

well am still deciding on what type of device, ideally something along the lines of a very simple sbc. Yeah the Sitara's have more than what I need. ideally what i really wan't is to do the hardware, around software/ OS I can transplant onto my design and boot it. no real interest on doing any software dev. but i realize i will have to mess with it.

Am currently reading a book on firmware and so far is has been great is helping me understand the lower level topics other books neglect.
