DM6467 USB capability

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320DM6467T

Hi Champs,

A customer is designing a board with TMS320DM6467T whose USB port is connected with the upstream of a USB HUB (SMSC USB2514BI-AEZG). I have attached the block diagram for your reference. Now, I have some queries about the testing of USB port of DM6467T in our board.

1) Can we connect the PC with the downstream port of the USB HUB ?

3) If yes, then any software is required from, USB HUB side or DSP side?

2) Can the DSP processor send and receive the data to and from PC through the USB 2.0 port ?

3) If yes, then what are the steps to do the above data transfer?

Basically I want to test the USB port of DM6467 connected with the upstream of a USB HUB in our board.

Please let me know

Thanks & Best Regards

I am confused with the diagram shown, Are you are trying to connect  PC (as device) to DSP (as host) through USB HUB?

Can you explain, your exact use case, what you want to achieve?

    1) If you connecting USB HUB to DSP, means that DSP act as USB Host.

    2) Whether DSP should be act as HOST or Device mode?

    3) You can connect only USB-DEVICE to any PC. Hence the DSP should be act as USB device.

Let me know the customer use case requriement, what you want to achieve here?

  • Hi Ravi,

We want to establish the DM6467 based board to connect to a PC and to other devices simultaneously.

Cant PC support OTG ? then we can support this config too.

  • If i understand correctly, you want to connect DM6467 board configured as USB device to PC. It is possible. Once you configure the USB controller in device mode, you cannot have host functionality. Even the OTG device can act either as host or device, but only one mode at time.

Generally PC does not support OTG, it will support only the host only configuration.

The device which supports OTG will have mini/micro-AB connector. where you can plugin both host/device cable.

  • Thank you Ravi!

    That should clarify matters.
