Level in H264 decoder

Hello,

H264 decoder for DM8168 is presetLevelIdc for configuring Level of codec.
I would like to ask why is this required when the decoder already can retrieve the given stream parameters from sequence header.
I also do not find this in MPEG4 decoder, or MPEG2 decoder.
Should it always be set to maximum level ?

Hi Ran,

In H264 decoder some of the memory requests to application are dependent on the level of codec. Hence level is a configuration parameter.

If you are aware of the max level of operation for your application / use case you can set that. Else you might have to set maximum level supported by standard (Level 5.1)

Hi Pavan,

If we configure the decoder for max level, say 5.1, it will succesfuly decode any lower level, right? The only price here is memory consumption.
