Problem with Connecting the Starter_Kit AM335x using CCSv5.0

I've got a starter kit couple of Days back and I'm using CCSv5.1.0.09000 to connect to the target. The target configuration is as follows:

Connection: Texas Instrument XDS100 USB Emulator

Board or Device : SK_AM3358

But, when i Click Test Connection I'm always getting this error:

The value is '-151' (0xffffff69).
The title is 'SC_ERR_FTDI_OPEN'.

The explanation is:
One of the FTDI driver functions used during
the connect returned bad status or an error.
The cause may one or more of: invalid emulator serial number,
blank emulator EEPROM, missing FTDI drivers, faulty USB cable.
Use the xds100serial command-line utility in the 'common/uscif'
folder to verify the emulator can be located.

I have tried installing the FTDI drivers from the link provided in the Wiki. But it didnt work.

Hi Venkat,

I think your problem is similar to this one. I've quoted from other posts on this topic:

"what PID/VID numbers are programmed into your XDS100 JTAG eeprom?

I had similar problem, but observed default FTDI PID/VID programmed on my board.

In effect I had 2 USB to Serial converters instead of XDS100 A/B + 1 UART.

Changing PID from 0x6010 to 0xA6D0 helps in my case.

The default FTDI PID/VID = 0x0403/0x6010 -> Two USB_to_Serial converters

The XDS100 PID/VID = 0x0403/0xA6D0 -> XDS100 A/B + 1 x USB_to_Serial converter"

"I got my TMDSSK3358 connected to CCS. Here's to share my setup:

8551.TMDSSK3358 setup files.zip

1. Modified INF files to match VID/PID on TMDSSK3358. With this, I can get drivers installed properly (Dual XDS100v2 + Serial port).

- Backup your INF files at C:\ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\emulation\windows\xds100_drivers\ftdi, and use the attached INF files

2. Added missing register definitions for WDT in GEL files

- Backup your GEL file at C:\ti\ccsv5\ccs_base\emulation\boards\sk_am3358\gel, and use the attached GEL file"

Thanks for the reply Biser.

But the setup files.zip link has some access restriction. I'm unable to access the link.

On checking the inf file, I saw, it has the following id

%USB\VID_0403&PID_a6d0&MI_00

Does your modified inf file has something similar to this or its something different.

Also, my OS is Widows xp and I'm running CCSv5 from a different directory other than default directory. Does that affect anything?

Hi Biser,

I have replaced the inf files with the one that you have shared. But the result is still the same. Its still throws the same FTDI Driver error.

I think you will need to reprogram the EEPROM on your Starter Kit FTDI chip with the correct PID, which is A6D0.

You mean to use the MProg utility to and the Xds100.ept file to program the EEPROM on the target.

I have tried that. When is scan using the Mprog it shows:

Number of Blank devices = 1

Number. of Programmed devices = 0

When i click "Program", it says no devices found.

Hello!

I also have a hard time to connect CSS5 with the am335x starter kit.

First step:

Windows was not even recognizing when i was connecting the AM335X USB cable. So i have tryed it also with my mobile with the same result. I replaced the cable and Windows was starting the Hardware Wizard. So i looks like the delivered USB cable is defective.

Second step:

I was not able to find the FDTI driver for the XDS100v2 ports. My device had the PID 6010. So i have changed the INF files to this PID and now i have:

TI XDS100 Channel A
TI XDS100 Channel B
USB Serial Port (COMX)

and a still not installed Android device (PID D002)

Now my problem is that CSS5 is not seeing the EVM for debugging...

How do i install it to CSS5?

Do i need to connect the network cable or just USB?

Finally, got the kit to work using the XDS100.

To program the EEPROM using MProg, I was using the FT2232C EPT files given in step 2 of this link http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS100/Reprogramming_the_VID-PID_EEPROM

But the FTDI chip on the target was FT2232H. The FT2232H Ept files are found in the Note section of this link: http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/XDS100#Q:_How_can_I_check_if_the_VID.2FPID_for_the_EEPROM_are_programmed_correctly.3F

After programming the EEPROM with the correct EPT file, I'm able to connect and debug the kit using CCSv5

Hello! Okay i also have reflashed the ft2232h chip with the new pids and it is installed correcly.

I still have a little problem with the debugging.

Can you please tell me what to do in CSSv5? In CSSv5 i am doing the following with no success:

CSS Debug >> View >> Target Configuration >> AM335x SK.ccxml:
Connection: Texas Instruments XDS100v2 USB Emulator
Board or Devise: EVMAM2258 (eventhough onboard is a XAM3359CZC)
Save

Debug AM335x SK
I got: TIXDS100v2/M3_wakeupSS_0 ... /CortexA8 ... /PRU_0 ... /PRU_1 all (Disconencted: Uknown)

When i press Connect Target is get a control register error....

Is they way correct or am i completly wrong. I just want to run my first testproject on the starter kit.

Hi Lars,

If you are using the Starter Kit then, under Board or Device select SK_3358 instead of EVMAM3358.

And in the target configuration window, goto "Advanced" Tab and click on "CortexA8" and then click "Browse" and browse to the "AM3358_StarterKit.gel" in the following directory

<install_dir>\ccsv5\ccs_base\emulation\boards\sk_am3358\gel\AM3358_StarterKit.gel

and Click save. Now in Debug Window Select CortexA8 and click Connect Target.

Okay i have changed that.

On "Connect Target" i get the following error: CortexA8: GEL: Error while executing OnTargetConnect(): identifdier not found: WDT1_WSPR at.....
The CortexA8 shows (Supended) 0x40E53E88 (no symbol defined to...)

When i press "Resume" it is in Running Mode. I can load a Symbol and when i am choosing my project it is reloading it.... but then nothing happens.

2161.AM3358_StarterKit.gel

I have attahced the Gel file I'm using. Check if its the same gel file that you are using.

I'm not getting WDT1_WSPR error.

I was actually getting some data verification error and Memory Write error.

But after power cycling, I was able to connect the target and load the grlib_demo project into the target.

Good Morning. Okay i am using your gel file for the Cortex8 and got the same error. I also have restarted the board. Then i get another error. I pressed "Resume" and it was runnging. I can only "Load/Add Symbols". I have tryed to load a symbol >> my project. Then it starts to load something. How long should it take to upload?

I have attached an screenshot of my view.

This is my screenshot of the debug window.

In the Target configuration Window, click on the Texas_Instrument Xds100 emulator and check if the JTAG Clk Frequency is Fixed Default 1.0MHz frequency

I was getting the same "Unable to Acees the DAP" error since this morning, whenever i tried to connect the target which was halted during the previous execution.

But after power cycling and disconnect/connect the USB cable I was able to connect the target.

Hi Biser,

If I'm using the FTDI FT_Prog ultility instead of MProg what other settings do I need to update apart from the Product ID?

The FT_Prog utility uses .xml files so I can't load the .ept from the wiki page.

I've got it working using FT_Prog, with the following settings updated from the device default:

Product ID updated to 0xA6D0

Max Bus Power updated to 200mA

Manufacturer updated to TI

Product Description updated to Texas Instruments XDS100+RS232 V1.0

Pull Down IO Pins in USB Suspend updated to Selected

Serial Number Prefix updated to TI

Port A updated to D2XX Direct

Just read the .ept file and adjusted the settings accordingly.
