Porting Debian linux on DM368

To run Debian (wheezy) on the DM368 EVM board.

Information got from Debian site

1. URL site: http://wiki.debian.org/InstallingDebianOn
Under "Non computer (embedded..)" section, its mentioned support for "TI BeagleBone" only

2. URL site: http://wiki.debian.org/ArmHardFloatPort#Partial_reference_of_SoC_and_supported_ISAs
Under "Partial reference of SoC and supported ISAs" section, its mentioned support for "TI OMAP" series only

From the above sites, it is clear that debian does not support TI DM36x series.

So we want to know whether TI have ported any version of Debian on DM36X till now ? If Yes, please provide pointers from where we can get the sources code and build it.

Any pointers on how to port the Debian (Wheezy) on DM368 will be of great help.

There is no debian port available for DM36x.

Hi Renjith,

As the debian port is not available for Dm36x, we are following the below procedure to support debian on dm36x.

1. We are using the Bootloader and the kernel which comes with dm36x DVSDK , which is specific and customized to dm36x.

2. We are using the debian wheezy Root file system , which provides package management layer.

3. We will be taking libraries and packages from Arago / dvsdk root file system for additional functionalities.

Please let know , will there be any limitations or drawbacks in following the above procedure.

I think your approach is good and easier. Are you able to boot up debian successfully on DM36x?

Hi Renjith,

Yes i am able to boot up with debian RFS and use debian tools like dpkg.

Actual work has not yet started . So we want to know the risks involved in following the above procedure at this stage.
