AM335X Starter Kit Serial Port Not working

Hi,

I have got the AM335X Starter Kit and I am using the Starterware to try out a few things on the board. I wanted to see the output on Tera Term and I have connected a USB cable to the micro-USB port of the board and the PC. I ran the VCOM port driver executable for the FTDI chip on the host PC as well. When I connect the board to the PC, the serial connection is not recognized and I dont see any outputs on the Tera Term terminal as well.  Can you please help me with this?

Thanks,

Richard

  • Hi,

AM335X Starter Kit has two reset buttons. Press the reset button found below the 4 User LEDs first to get the console detected on Teraterm. The the other reset button (one close to the power input) can be used to reset the board and see output on the console.

  • Hi Sandhya,

Thanks for the quick response. I have tried those but still the device is not getting detected. I am using Windows 7. I have installed VCOM drivers from FTDI but the COM port does not show up in the hardware device manager. The device does not get recognized by the PC as well. What am I missing?

    Regards,

    Richard

  • Hi Sandhya,

I figured out that the device not getting recognized was because of a faulty cable that got shipped with the starter kit. I replaced the cable and the device gets detected and the FTDI drivers are installed properly. However the Tera Term with baud rate of 115200 still does not display any messages while using the starter ware. The COM port used is COM7. Is there a specific COM port that needs to be used?

    Richard

  • Hi Richard,

There is no need to use any specific COM port. The one detected on your machine should work. Btw, have you formatted your SD card using the formatter in /tools directory in StarterWare ? Do not specify the location of MLO in the formatter. Please format first, then manually copy the MLO and app according to StarterWare quick start guide.
