AM3357 DDR +LPDDR layout

Is there a guidelines for layouting AM335X with both LPDDR and DDR2/3 components on the same pcb ?

My requirements for DDR capacity and low power  can't be supported by LPDDR which is limited to 2Gbit x16  width

I intend layouting  x1 LPDDR e.g. MT46H128M16 on the PCB for low power application and additional  x2 DDR2/3 components (8 bit wide)  for high capacity requirements

In the low power option only LPDDR will be populated and the two DDR will not be populated, in case of high capacity, x2 DDR2/3 will be populated and the LPDDR will not

Is it possible to support both type of memories in one PCB layout?

  • No, this is not possible.  The DDR interface requires very good signal integrity and it is not possible to have unconnected transmission line stubs on any of the DDR signals.

You will need separate PCB designs, one for the low power application and another for the high capacity product.
