We either have a dead ezDSP5505 or we are encountering CCS issues.
We loaded Code Composer Studio, CCSv4, from the ezDSP5505 dev kit CD.
The 5 examples on the install CD don't work. Some compile and program the chip without error but nothing happens on the ezDSP. Some compile and grumble about the version of the TI bios being different. These examples won't program the chip.
We have tried 6 combinations of Windows and CCS versions. We have tried CCS on 32-bit XP, 32-bit Vista, and 64-bit WIN7 all with CCS off the install CD and with and without running the CCS auto-upgrade process. The Vista install goes the furthest using the raw install CD CCS without running the update process.
Is the ezDSP5505 dead? The green LED is on upon power up. The chip programs so at last the programmer believes the 5505 is OK. The LED goes out when we attempt to run an example such as the LED flash. The LED goes out and does not flash. Ditto for the 5505 reference demo.
Suggestions? Next step?
We like the FFT accelerator and dual MACs on the 5505.
Alternatives could be to use a pure CPU solution on an ARM implementing the FFT using NEON SIMD instructions.
Perhaps we should look at a newer vintage DSP. However, the four year old 5505 is perfect for our application and thre no "not recommended for new designs" warning associated with the 5505.
