Possibility of a visit from a field rep

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: OMAPL138

Hello,

We are beginning to work on a project here at the school based on an OMAPL138 solution.  Things are proceeding well, and we have already had several opportunities to receive assistance from the forums.  Would there be some way, however, to arrange for a visit from a field engineer, or some such?  As the lead software engineer on this and other projects, I have been pushing TI's solutions for projects we have been involved in, and I feel it would be a nice "show of faith," as well as assisting us in developing our current project, if we could initiate a little personal contact.  A personal visit would perhaps benefit both of our organizations.  There is the likelihood that, if the current project is successful, as well, that it will be developed into a medium production consumer product.

Would there be a channel that I could pursue in order to request such a visit?  There are no immediate pressing issues (although I believe that the fellow handling board layout and design has a few questions).  I just feel it would be helpful for someone a little more familiar with TI's specific design philosophy to look over what we are doing and possibly suggest any improvements/changes in course/whatever that might make things proceed more smoothly in our development process.

Thank you for your consideration in advance.

  • Michael,

    Two recommendations:

    1. Contact the TI University Program. Go to TI.com, to the Support & Community tab, and click on the TI University Program link. You can register with the program and get access to the resources TI provides for universities around the world.

    2. On that same Support & Community tab on TI.com, you will find a TI Design Network link. This will get you to a treasure list of qualified Third Parties who are very familiar with TI products and who could be retained by your University to help with your training and development process.

  • Hmm,

I tried to go sign up for the TI University Program.  I received the following response:

    "Dear Michael,

We have received your request to register for the TI University
Program. However, to register for our program you must be a
postgraduate (Masters or PhD student), Lecturer, Post-Doc Researcher,
    or Professor."

This puts me off a bit.  I'm a third year undergrad in the EE program, albeit a 50 year old one.  I have been personally responsible for redirecting the teams here to switch over to TI. I am trying to continue to convince the department that TI has a higher quality product along with a higher level of support.  I am personally responsible for coding several of our products for outside customers using TI products. This response gives me a bit of a black eye, so to speak.

I find myself a bit disappointed.

  • Michael,

Not being in a position to speak for the TI University Program, I can only offer some opinions. But I can easily say that all of us at TI are grateful for your support and eagerness and apparent skill with the TI products. We all definitely want you and your University to succeed within the EE department and wherever life takes you and your fellow undergrads.

It makes sense that the TI University Program would intentionally target those who lead and develop curriculum. It sounds like you are a leader in this case, and you do not fit the typical list in the email response. I hope you understand that response was not personal. We will have to see what options are available.

Design support, layout support, debug support - some of these are provided through the E2E forums and the TI Wiki Pages. Direct support is available through the TI Design Network where more resources are available from people who are in the business of using TI devices - we may be better at designing and building devices and they may be better at designing and building systems.

None of this may be the salve you are seeking for your wounds. We will look into what is available.

    Regards,
    RandyP

  • Michael,

How reasonable would it be to have your sponsoring professor to sign up for the TI University Program as a conduit into TI?

    RandyP

  • Thank you for your prompt response.  I can understand their reasons.  Finding a liaison was an option that had occurred to me.  I will do some checking around and see who I can find.

  • Michael, can you please go ahead and send an email into univ@ti.com and request assistance and we can connect with your instructor.  I can see that the autoresponse from the registration form must be frustrating and we'll work on that wording.  Please note that the program does have some great resources for students http://e2e.ti.com/group/universityprogram/students/default.aspx and extended resources for instructors/lab managers/grad students http://e2e.ti.com/group/universityprogram/educators/default.aspx.

We are excited that you are using the OMAPL138/C6748 for your project and look forward to assisting you and your instructor.

    thanks and best regards,
