C5535 Clkin : Oscillator vs Quartz

Hello,

Is it possible to drive the C5535 RTC inputs (RTCXI RTCXO inputs) with an oscillator (32.678 KHz provided by external generator) rather than an external crystal ?

    Hi Nicholas,

    Typically whenever there is an option between external oscillator or quartz, there is a bypass and mux to route the externally generated signal around the oscillator circuitry. However, in the case of the C553x, there is no such circuitry in place.

    To be fair, this is not always the case.  

    In those cases, it is usually explicitly stated in the documentation what can and cannot be done in terms of clock sourcing.  That being said, all information in the TRM indicates that the RTC is sourced from only a crystal.
