What is IOM driver model of the DSP/BIOS operating system ?

Hi All,

I am working for UPP interface of [DSP C6748 ] for the first time and hence new to this environment and terminology used . 

Going through the document's i found that stress is given to the point that UPP driver is compliant / satisfies  "IOM driver model of the DSP/BIOS operating system"

Hence can any one please help me to understand :-

a) What do we mean by "IOM driver model of the DSP/BIOS operating system" compliant driver ?

b) What is the significance of this ?

c) Where is it essential ?
