Does V4L2 support 1080i capture?

Please check IO expansion board is connected properly, because setting/querying of DV preset fails means its not able to detect the input source.

V4L2 capture driver supports following features.

• Supports VIP0 instance of the VPSS.
• Supports TVP7002 standard Linux sub device driver.
• Supports YUV422 interleaved, YUV422 semiplanar, YUV420 semiplanar and RGB888 color formats to memory.
• Supports scaling and cropping for YUV formats (downscaling and progressive inputs only)
• Supports 1080P60, 1080P30, 1080I60 and 720P60 input resolutions.
• Supports user pointer buffer mechanism of the V4L2 driver interface.

So it does support 1080i.

In that case why is the saLoopback example failing?

Driver Name: ti81xxvin
Driver bus info: TI81xx Platform
DriverVPSS_DCTRL: venc 1 already stop
is capable of doing capture
saLoopBack:
Mode set is 0
Setting DV Preset failed

If I use the OpenMAX capture_encode sample then I can see the captured video on the LCD display so the EIO board is connected properly and the video input seems to work. Why wont the saLoopback example work?

Have you tried progressive capture using V4L2? If progressive works than there is not point that interlaced doestn work. If progressive doesnt work that means something is seriously wrong.

No. Unfortunately we dont have a 1080p video source that has a component output.

Can you recommend one? Most blu-ray players seem to have only HDMI.

You can try 720P as well. PS3 can give 1080P and 720P both on component.

hi Steven,

D1 resolution may not be supported in saLoopback, because it uses display as well, and to set D1 resolution, we will have to configure display in D1 mode. There are lot of change required. so as Hardik suggested, could you please try it out with HD progressive resolution like 720p and see if you get the correct output.

I'm working on it. It would be easier if I could use the VGA input rather than the component input since my 1080p source doesn't have a component output.

Typically, 1080p source supports 720p on component output.  Just see if it is possible.

I cant! My source does not have a component output. It does have a VGA output though. The other post I refer to is a question about how I use the VGA input on the DM8148 EVM.

VGA input is not supported as of now. Its a driver limitation.
