DM8107 SERDES Clock Input

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DM8107

Hi All,

I am designing a board based on DM8107 in which there is SATA interface but not PCI.

There is query related to SERDES clock for DM8107. As mentioned on page 82 and 145 of datasheet SERDES clock is optional and so can be left floating. Whereas page 221 says that 100MHz differential clock source must required for SATA operation. I have referred August 2012 revision of the datasheet as attached.

Please let me know whether we should apply clock to SERDES or not.

Thanks

Sachin

  • Hi Sachin,

If you are using SATA interface then the serdes diff clock of 100MHz is needed. Please download use the latest data sheet dated Jan 13.

Please see section 8.17.1 SATA Interface Design Specifications

A standard 100-MHz differential clock source must be used for SATA operation (for details, see
    Section 7.3.2).

    Best Regards

    Feroz
