Developing tools needed for DM3730 without OS

Hello,

I have a CompuLabs SB-T35 board with a CM-T3730 main board. I would like to run some algorithms on the board but don't want any OS loaded. I've already installed CCSv5.3 and the latest OMAP (non-OS). CompuLab seems to suggest going the route of an OS.

The board does have X-Loader and U Boot installed on a MMC (no NAND). Here's what I'd like to do:

1) Develop code to run on the DM3730 (no OS) and simply spit out some UART3 (RS232) data.

-- Which/where include files are for the chip

-- What do I need to consider when setting things up

-- Any other software I need to install?

2) Load the .bin file into memory and run it. (I know I can use the U Boot 'loadb' command and then the 'go' command). I want to make sure the .ORG of the c file is set correctly (don't know if an .out file is similar to .bin).

For me the biggest question is what toolchains/ide do I need (I figure ccs5.3 and omap will do) and also which include files (more where) are needed to get UART3 up and running.

An other recommended toolchain is arm-none-linux-gnueabi.

I've installed Sourcery Codebench (arm-none-linux) already and didn't find any files such as /.../serial_core.h or anything else that relates to drivers.

...also, I cannot find chip specific files for the include statements; e.g. if I want to call a register by name.

You need to download the sources of u-boot and kernel from the first link and then compile them. There you can find /.../serial_core.h file. This sources are not TI's release and they are not tested by me.

So, am I to understand that TI has no toolchain to allow direct development for this chip including IDE? I am more acustom to microcontrollers where direct toolchains are available. Another thing too is that I will be developing on a Win7 host PC so I would like to avoid anything like cygwin, and the like.

Hi Dustin,

The Ubuntu is recommended OS for DaVinci development by TI but TI provides ability to use Windows host PC for development. There is some links to tutorials about how to:

Hello,

Looking at the first webpage I've followed those steps already. When going through the build steps of the page I noticed I don't have the non-OS examples (or any examples) in either my CSS5 directory or Sourcery arm-none-eabi directory. Is there a specific SitaraWare download I need? I couldn't find one. Also, the webpage seems to use files that were built in 2009 (based on the link to the Sourcery download), since the info is pushing nearly four years old are there any changes that are causing me issues?

...also, in the downloads mentioned above is there an include file for the DM3730 (more for the arm part) which contains the register definitions, e.g.

ARMv7_DM3730.h

Again, just looking to get setup with some non-OS development and getting the envirement correctly setup on Win7.

Hello,

Quick question, by chance which platforms can I get away with using when compiling the Hello example under SYS/BIOS if I use the CM-T3730?. When looking under the list of platforms there doesn't exist one named ...DM3730 or ...DM37xx or anything else to relate to that series of chip. I know the platforms are board dependent, just looking to get this to compile.

On one of the platforms in the list does not match to your board. The ti.platforms.evm3530 is very similar but not the same. I advise you to open thread in the Code Composer Studio forum at the link:
