Interface for remote transfer

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320C6678

Hello,

can someone suggest an interface available at multicore KeyStone architecture that would best suits our project. We need to capture data from 4 remote stations over optical fiber, every stream is about 500Mb/s. Data flows in one direction only (from stations to central unit).

Can it be done only with one fiber per line, coded serial stream (8B/10B) in point-to-point configuration. I was evaluating PCIe, but it has only 2 lanes (at TMS320C6678). What about the HyperLink, can it be somehow simplified (using only data outputs, leaving control in constant mode/direction) ?

  • Jiri,

Why do you believe you'd need more than 2 lanes of PCIe.  1 lane gives you up to 5Gbaud.  A fiber to switch w/ PCIe on the end sounds like a potential solution.

As for HyperLink, you would need an FPGA glue to a fiber solution.  This would be a lot more complicated.  This is why I recommended PCIe or Ethernet as the end point connection from the Switch to DSP w/ Fiber connection on the other side of the switch on the other thread.  These two are very common IO's and I'd suspect you'd find switches available to do what you're looking to do.

    Best Regards,

    Chad
