OMAP 3530 silicon Revision 3.1.2, device revision code 'E'

I want to know about OMAP3530 silicon revision 'E' compatibility with 'D'. Can I replace OMAP3530DCBB with OMAP3530ECBB with NO modification to firmware /software?

At present, I am using OMAP3530DCBB72, silicon revision 3.1, device revison code 'D' in my design.I want to replace this device with OMAP3530ECBB, silicon Revision 3.1.2, device revision code 'E'. According to Silicon Errata, SPRZ278F, October 2010, there is difference between ARM Cortex A8 variant used (r1p3 vs r1p7). How Will it affect the present firmware load used in the design?

Hello,

The OMAP3530 processors silicon revision 'E' has full back compatibility with there with revision 'D'. Therefore you can replace the OMAP3530DCBB with OMAP3530ECBB. If you need more information about differences between ARM Cortex-A8 silicon revisions you could read the following document:

However, based on your answer back in Nov 2012 (See http://e2e.ti.com/support/dsp/omap_applications_processors/f/447/p/221514/780078.aspx#780078) to similar situation where OMAP3530 rev 'E' was used, I thought OMAP 3530 sillicon revision 'E' was not completely backward compatible with rev 'D'.

Can you please clarify?

Hi,

I have not access to the ARM Core Cortex-A8 (AT400/AT401) errata document and I could not discuss about it because there are some restrictions to it.

But if look at the Cortex-A8 Technical reference manual the only described difference between both revision is:
